Ecliptic Technologies is located in Fargo, North Dakota. Perhaps best known for being the home of Roger Maris, the New York Yankees outfielder who belted out 61 home runs in 1961 to break Babe Ruth’s previous mark of 60 in 1927, and for the movie Fargo, our city has a lot to offer if you’re looking at employment with Ecliptic Technologies.
Fargo sits on the western bank of the Red River of the North in a very beautiful, flat area called the Red River Valley. Once part of the glacial Lake Agassiz, Fargo is situated in some of the world’s richest agricultural land. Along with West Fargo, ND, and Moorhead, MN, Fargo is the central city in the vibrant and growing Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Area.
Founded in 1871, the city was originally called Centralia. Primarily a stopping point for steamboats traveling up and down the Red River, it became a major trade area earning the designation Gateway to the West. With the arrival of the railroad, the area flourished and was later renamed Fargo, in honor of Northern Pacific Railway director and Wells Fargo Express Company founder William Fargo.
By the turn of the century, Fargo had over 600 residents and the city thrived in retail trade, manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation. It boasted many fine restaurants and elegant hotels, and had an opera and symphony. Education was important to Fargo residents and many schools were established, along with the land-grant college North Dakota State University.
Today, Fargo is a regional center of education, commerce and health care. Economically strong, it is home to many major companies such as Microsoft, Alien Technology, Navteq, PRACS Institute, Bobcat, American Crystal Sugar, Phoenix International, Cass Clay Creamery, Global Electronic Motorcars, RDO Equipment, Scheels All Sports, and of course Ecliptic Technologies.
Why is living and working in Fargo so great? Quality of life is a phrase often-used to describe our city. With a population of nearly 91,000, Fargo has consistently had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. Complimented by its low crime rate, decent supply of affordable housing, great education system, and strong Midwestern values, Fargo is ranked near the top of Money magazine’s Most Livable Cities. It has been selected, along with Moorhead, MN (its sister city across the border) as an All American City and in 2006, was awarded for having some the cleanest air in the US for a city its size. It truly is a great place to live and work!
